Level 2: Front Crawl

Ages 5-12: Students who have mastered the skills from level 1 are ready to tackle the front crawl stroke. Front Crawl is one of the most important strokes a swimmer will learn and will set the foundation for all other strokes. This class focuses on combining skills like kicking, arm motion and head placement to achieve the basic front crawl. This class is perfect for swimmers who have been working on kicks, glides and floats and are ready for the next challenge. The average class size is 4 students with each class having one teacher and one teacher’s aid. We find most students, especially when they are above 9 years old, catch on pretty quickly and only need to repeat this level twice before moving on to level 3. Younger children may find they need to repeat it more than twice because developmentally the arm leg coordination can be more difficult to master at younger ages. Prerequisite: Students must be able to go underwater, perform the back float unassisted, front glide with face in the water, and kick the width of the pool using a kickboard.
